Wings of Hope

A fantasy poem I wrote in 2004.

Wings of Hope:

Shining, bright, and gleaming,

Golden brilliance—golden light,

Blue, blue sky—a white winged horse flying by,

Beautiful blue eyes shining with freedom,

White mane and tail flying,

Gleaming white body—shine shine shine,

Golden hooves kicked up in fun-loving joy,

White feathered wings flap hard in happiness,

White wings of hope—of freedom,

Brought to the oppressed,

Wings of Hope lifts those up in need of hope,

And dashes down the unjust,

Wings of Hope, gives hope to us all.

The Ladies of the Night

I don’t remember what fantasy book I was reading at the time I wrote this, but this poem was inspired by whatever that book was. This was written in 2005.

The Ladies of the Night

They appear out of the mist,

Cloaks of night shroud them,

Long black dresses of darkness cover them–giving form to their shapes,

Eyes glow golden, hair is coal black with blue shimmers,

Walking silently on the wooded ground, mist covering the earth, they haunt our dreams–ghosts of dark beauty passing through the dark mist,

Ladies of the Night, come forth–show us your dark beauty.

Unicorns

A 2007 fantasy poem.

Unicorns:

They come in the darkness of the night,

The moonlight shining down on their pure-white coats,

They step into the pool of moonlight—silver hooves making no sound on the leaf-strewn forest floor,

Their white horns gleam in the moon’s light—they shine with a brilliance unknown to all,

They toss their heads, mane flying,

The moon’s light touching on it—making it shine,

Their tails swish back and forth—noiseless,

They walk through the forest, silver hooves noiselessly touching the forest’s floor,

They shine, they gleam, they make their presence known to us—by a silver hoof print in the dirt,

They protect us, though not showing themselves to us,

They are from myth and legend,

They are unseen guardian angels from the mist,

That is their home—and there they will stay protecting and helping us from afar.

Lords of the Skies

A fantasy poem that I wrote in 2007.

Lords of the Skies:

Flying high,

Diving by,

Roaring fire,

Wings outspread,

Scales sparkle like bygone jewels,

Talons sharp as knives,

Spikes rock hard and deadly sharp as the sword,

They soar on wings outspread,

They glide,

They circle,

Tails whip back and forth,

Flames spew out of their mouths,

Orange jets—blue jets—amber jets—of flame,

They are dragons,

They are the lords of the skies.

Beauty of Land and Sky

A 2007 nature poem.

Beauty of Land and Sky:

Skies open up to let out the new day,

Sun shines down with golden rays,

A clear blue sky is shown today,

Winds ruffle the trees,

The air sweet as orange blossoms,

The trees with perfect brown trunks and green green leaves,

The ground covered in green grass soft to bare feet,

I look around me and see beauty throughout the land and in the sky,

And wonder how can this be—this beauty of land and sky?

The Animals’ Magic of Life

Another 2008 poem about nature.

The Animals’ Magic of Life:

The sun sets in—letting the moon come awake,

The sunrise comes about—the moon leaves her home,

The animals awake from their deep slumber—coming forth from their dwellings,

They chirrup and yawn and make their own special noises as they rise with the sun,

They scamper here and there—throughout the meadows and prairies—through the trees,

They spread their magic of life everywhere,

The animals rise with the sun,

They settle in with its setting,

And so another day goes by,

Their magic disappears with the coming darkness,

No light of their magic of life shows in the darkness,

It hides itself—fearful of the darkness—and scared without the light.

River Runs

This was written in 2005 also.

River Runs:

River runs high,

River runs low,

River runs fast,

River runs slow,

River runs clear,

River runs dark,

River runs over the land to its own mark.

The Desert

Written back in 2005 on a poem-writing spree.

The Desert:

The sands of time cover the land,

The dunes are high,

They tower like the ancient mountains that have never been seen,

The sun beats down on the earth,

It burns brightly,

It scorches the earth,

The heat is year long during the day,

There is terrible cold during the night,

The stars shine brightly in the open sky,

The sky and the land show their wildness,

And reflect it in the people.

Wild Horse & Burro Auction 2018

A half-hour from my house, are the Livestock Show Grounds, where every year the wild horses and burros (donkeys) from Nevada–I think that’s where they’re from–come to be sold. (They’re sold at other places on their way down here). It was in February, I think, that they came down, and at 8AM, my mom, neice, and I went to see the horses and burros since it started at about 8:30AM. The weather was wonderfully chilly, and with jeans, my cowboy boots, a long-sleeved shirt, and hoodie on it felt great out. At the show grounds, we parked and went straight to where the auction was taking place. There were a couple dozen wild horses, which were all beautifully shaggy, and two adorable (also shaggy) burros. The colors of the horses ranged from light brown to dark brown to black, with different markings, mostly markings on the face, such as a blaze, or legs of black or dark brown. Very few of them were one solid color. My favorite one there–the one I would have bought–was a light brown filly with a white patch in the center of her forehead, the size of my little finger’s nail. (She’s pictured in a close-up and distance one of her with her nose to the ground nibbling at the hay there and a close up of her face). I also got to feed her and the black filly with the dark brown-tinted forelock. The light brown filly also let me pet her a little. She was the most friendly one of them all. As you can see from the pictures, I went around and took a lot of pictures of the horses. I “oohed and awwed” at all the horses. My mom and I noted which ones we liked the most, the two of us commenting on the horse’s confirmations, markings, and colorings, while my niece tried to feed them. We watched as the guys there separated the horse(s) out from the others that were already bought and sent them down a chute to their new owner’s trailer. My little filly got separated out too, and was sent down the chute to a guy’s trailer. And in she went. Awhile later, we left for home.

I Am Fire:

This was written several years ago, when I went on a spree of writing poetry. Who knows how I came up with it.

I Am Fire:

Fire roar,

Fire crackle,

Fire show me your amber light,

Fire  hold me—warm me,

Fire love me,

I am fire.
